A Pitchers duel? Oakland vs. Detroit

I was so excited about going to today's game, because it not only featured two of the top teams in baseball with the visiting Detroit Tigers facing off against the home Oakland Athletics,(both are atop their division) but it also featured two of the top pitchers in baseball in Max Scherzer for Detroit, and Sonny Gray for Oakland.
Sonny Gray
We arrived about two hours early, to our seats in the bleachers, and began to notice the interesting landscape that was the bleachers in the Coliseum. Oakland is the first ballpark that we have been to that has allowed artificial noisemakers, and the fans definitely took advantage of the rule. They seemed to come equipped with everything they could, they had full snare drums, tambourines and many cowbell's, at some points it seemed like they were one big band, ambivalent to the game going on right in front of them, and instead more interested in hitting their instrument of choice as loud as they could.

Max Scherzer
Going into this game, we all expected a low scoring game, even though the offenses were great, we were sure that these two pitchers would make it look easy and shut the hitters down. Once the game actually started, we were all shocked at how wrong we were. Each pitcher only lasted 6 innings apiece, with Gray giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, and Scherzer giving up 5 runs on 8 hits. The relievers were not much better, and the final score ended up being 6-5 in favor of the Tigers. Neither ace pitcher got a win, but that shouldn't matter, because wins are a pretty stupid statistic.
As the rest of this trip progresses, we have potential to get to see some more of the best pitchers in baseball, Kershaw, Greinke, Cueto, Cole, and Weaver are just a few that come up, hopefully they are able to pitch to their full ability!
Until the Next Adventure,
Ryan Rey
